Yahoo is an American web services provider which owned by Engadget parent company Verizon. Yahoo was launched Groups in 2001 as a sort of forum and mailing list hybrid and it quickly became a home for specialist communities. But after social networking happened, it became Yahoo major problem. There’s not as much motivation to use Yahoo’s community when your Facebook group, Twitter friends or Discord chat will fit the bill, and often more effectively.
Recently the internet pioneer is shutting the Yahoo Groups website in a two-stage process that will effectively see it vanish. Beside that, user will no longer be able to post new content on 21st October and Yahoo will delete all previous post material on 14th December. Users still able connect with their groups through email but the site will effectively be empty. All groups will be made private and require an administrator approval.
But if the user still wish to preserve their history on the site, they need to download their data either directly from posts or through Yahoo privacy dashboard.
Even though Yahoo is yet to explain the shutdown, but users may see this coming. This could be a sad moment for some. Yahoo is erasing a piece of internet history.
